Senmatic aquires part of Fionia Lighting A/S

PRESS RELEASE - 22 of June 2011

From research to invoice
Technology firm Fionia Lighting A/S has a new co-owner, Senmatic A/S, and has thus moved on from being a research project at the University of Southern Denmark (SDU) to become a regular company rooted in local industry

The first customers are on board, and now Energi Fyn and Denmark's largest nursery garden PKM, among others, have been joined by Senmatic A/S as co-owners of Fionia Lighting A/S.
Fionia Lighting - which develops energy efficient LED lighting for horticulture - has thus far succeeded in its strategy. The company has concentrated its efforts in the field between research and product development in close cooperation with SDU, and the likes of German-based Osram, who have delivered new components at prototype level to the firm on Funen.

- Fionia are moving forward as planned from an international R&D company with university roots at SDU to the next stage, where efforts are now increasingly directed towards preliminary production and marketing. That the cooperation with Senmatic has now led to co-ownership, is a natural and welcome consequence of this, says chairman of the board Bent Agerholm, CEO of Energi Fyn.

First and foremost, commercial greenhouse growers can achieve a saving of more than 40% on electricity compared to traditional greenhouse lighting, when using luminaires from Fionia Lighting. For the average Danish nursery, this corresponds to several million Danish kroner per annum. By fully incorporating LED technology into a nursery's ecosystem, further gains can be obtained in terms of greenhouse climate control and the strategic procurement of electricity.

- Senmatic's product range includes climate computers and sensors for the horticulture industry. We believe that with our involvement in Fionia, we can reap the benefit of several synergies. And it will put us in the technological forefront internationally for horticultural lighting and climate control, says Torben Hansen, CEO Senmatic A/S.

In connection with Senmatic's involvement in Fionia, Jens Kr. Damsgaard is stopping as CEO, as planned. In his capacity as CEO of Energi Invest Fyn A/S, he will continue to develop new research-based companies according to the "Fionia model". Torben Hansen takes over as the new director of Fionia Lighting A/S.

A total of approx. 30 million DKK has been invested in the project, which has received support from the Danish Energy Agency and been awarded the Spies Foundation Climate Award by the then Environment Minister Connie Hedegaard.
