Collect five sensors and transmitters in an easy-access connection box

Senmatic’s new Marine Connection Box, Type MCB, easily collects up to five sensors and five transmitters to secure accurate temperature control at different depths during custody transfers in the marine gas industry – in a compact box designed to make installation and maintenance easier for the end user.

For anyone dealing with marine gases, temperature is a crucial factor. As gases, such as liquid natural gas, change form depending on their temperature, accurate temperature control throughout the storage tanks during custody transfers is essential – and is linked directly to the success and security of the process.

- Because of the temperature requirements when dealing with marine gases, it is very important that the tanks are equipped with the right type of temperature sensors. The sensors detect important variables. Most optimally, the sensors should be placed at different depths in the storage tank, which is made easy with the Marine Connection Box, says Allan Jørgensen, Key Account Manager at Senmatic, and adds:

Reliable sensors at different depths

Type MCB allows for up to five sensors – all at different lengths – and five transmitters to be connected. Collecting up to five sensors and transmitters in just one Type MCB, provides measurements and data from different depths of the storage tank, making control with the gas stratification more precise. The location of the sensors is defined in percentage, and typically placed in the tank vapor, top, middle, and bottom.

The Type MCB connection box can be used with the Type NS sensor (up to 35 M), with temperatures ranging from -200°C to +250°C (-392°F to 482°F), or the Type MNS sensor (up to 300 M), with temperatures from -200°C to +100°C (-392°F to 212°F).

The Type NS sensors have a Ø 3.5 mm sheath that allow them to go into guide tubing, where access is otherwise difficult, such as in C10 tanks and LNG applications, providing multiple possibilities for flexible installation, without compromising the reliability or sturdiness of the sensors.

A broad range of marine approvals

Type MCB is considered a passive component or “Simple Apparatus” according to the standard EN 60079, and therefore an ATEX approval is not required.

The sensors and transmitters all have a broad range of marine approvals, including DNV-GL, Bureau Veritas, Lloyd’s Register of Shipping, DNV-GL EU RO MR for the type-NS sensors, and Ex ia IIC T6 Ga, FM13ATEX0019X, IECEx FME 13.0003X and DNV-GL EU RO MR for the type-MNS sensors.
